Dinner and a Joe (2016)
A set of readings and performances which were structured by an ongoing argument between myself and Nebraska Jones (played by Rachael Ford). Jones opened the show, dressed as me, and read a story only for me to emerge at a critical moment and reveal her to be an impostor.
She then became the butt of numerous jokes during the show, which also featured a poem to be read by an audience member, me giving out tins of beans for people to eat, and the use of empty bean tins as percussion alongside a story. My character’s self-pity is undermined by my attitude to Jones, generating tension.
After the final group singalong, Jones was revealed as an actress and co-writer, much to the audience’s relief.
